As therapists, our top priority is being able to meet our clients where they are at, while also showing up authentically as ourselves as therapists!
Many of our clients are already incorporating tarot into their personal wellness practice, which makes this an extremely useful resource that clients already love to use. Meanwhile, so many therapists are terrified to use tarot (or other amazing psychospiritual resources) simply because they think it’s not allowed!
In our experience, incorporating tarot into your personal wellness practice as a therapist is so deeply rewarding and clarifying, and using tarot with clients ethically is easier than you think.
The intention of this two-part class is to empower each learner in the room to deepen their fluency and competency in tarot as an experiential process.
These workshops will help you:
- Master the fundamentals of reading tarot cards experientially.
- Build cultural competency in a tool your clients are already using.
- Learn tarot’s history as a psychotherapeutic tool.
- Feel confident in the ethics and utility of tarot for therapists.
- Support your own spiritual wellness as a practitioner.
- Connect to an amazing local community of holistic therapists.
- Learn “The Fool’s Journey” through the lens of Jung’s individuation process, Erikson’s psychosocial development, and the story of your personal journey as a therapist.
- Learn specific exercises you can use when you’re burning out, struggling with particular clients, feeling stuck in your practice, or just need a bit of grounding.
- Learn everything you need to know about using tarot with clients in session: client-led use of experiential tarot, modifying and adapting tarot to client needs, pairing tarot with other modalities, and confidently creating ritual and structure with clients.

FAQ
Is it actually allowed for therapists to use tarot in sessions with clients?
Yes! There are many appropriate ways to use tarot in sessions with clients. If you are a psychologist, the use of tarot would be considered an intervention similar to Jungian analysis, sandtray, or ambiguous images. For social workers, the use of tarot could be considered part of psychospiritual wellness (for clients who have an interest in tarot).
Of course, it would be inappropriate in any profession to enforce the use of an intervention that a client does not consent to. This workshop will give you all the tools to know how to navigate tarot ethically and appropriately in sessions.
What is "experiential tarot" exactly?
This is a term we use to mean tarot that is not divinatory, not fortune telling, and that is psychological in nature. It describes the way that the use of images, as in tarot, can support people in moving away from “thinking about” something to actually encountering and experiencing the issue at hand. This experiencing allows tarot to reveal, resource, and resolve challenges for people, rather than only providing insight.
It positions the therapist and client as a curious team encountering the images together. Experiential tarot does not position the therapist as a “reader” who knows all the answers or who gatekeeps hidden knowledge.
Do I have to sign up for both classes?
It is not mandatory, however, it is strongly encouraged! If you’d like to sign up for only one class, please let Pragya know during registration!
